Tom McPherson is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music (Rochester NY), the University of Toronto, and the Royal Conservatory of Music. After teaching band, choir, general music, and core classroom subjects in the Coquitlam School District for several years, Tom McPherson set out on his own in 2002 to pursue a unique combination of interests.
Tom devotes much of his life to music, yet he is fascinated by the wisdom gained through the study of astrology. In 1998, he was awarded the Faculty Scholarship from the Faculty of Astrological Studies (London) for highest exam results worldwide.
Tom McPherson is a member of the BC Choral Federation, the BC Registered Music Teachers Association, and the Association of Canadian Choral Conductors. He especially enjoys his work as a choral accompanist, having regular positions with Richmond Chorus and the North Shore Unitarian Church. Tom is frequently called to substitute for other choir accompanists as well.
Tom enjoys teaching students of all ages. His studio roster includes young children just starting out in piano, kids who have a few years’ experience, adults who always wanted lessons as a kid but never got them, and others who have returned to lessons after a few decades have passed.
Having had a love for musical theatre all his life, Tom enjoys working in the genre whenever he can. In 2006, Tom collaborated with his longtime friend, Lezlie Wade, in the creation of a new musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. The show was produced by Smile Theatre of Toronto and toured Southern Ontario with great reviews.
