By Lezlie Wade

Premiered at Theatre in Port
St. Catharines, Ontario

About the play:
Based on Charles Dickens Christmas Story is a four-hander storytelling for family audiences.

Toby Veck is a poor but honest courier who counts his blessings in spite of his misfortunes. When his daughter comes to tell him that she is going to marry he is overjoyed, but optimism is soon replaced with doubt and eventually despair as a series of events make him wonder if he should ever have been born. Through the mystical qualities of The Chimes, he comes to appreciate the value and significance of his life by witnessing the outcome of those who love him, if he wasn’t there.

Long before It's a Wonderful Life, there was The Chimes.

“In a world premiere, masterly adaptation of Charles's Dicken's The Chimes, Lezlie Wade brings to vivid life the poor who lived on the streets of Dickensian London, the politicians and the rich whose only interest in the poor was to patronise them or to put them down.”
